How should I insulate a shop or metal building in San Luis?

Commercial insulation in San Luis slows the heat moving through the roof and walls of a shop, warehouse or office, so less of the afternoon sun gets inside and the building uses less energy to stay comfortable.

Most commercial calls I get start the same way. The shop is too hot to work in by afternoon, the power bill keeps climbing, or water drips off the roof panels on a cool morning. The price turns on how much roof and wall there is, what's already up there and whether it has to come out first, and whether spray foam or fiberglass rolls fit your building. The schedule turns on how much tear-out there is and whether we work around your business hours, since spray foam comes with a re-entry time when nobody can be inside. I come out, look at the building myself and go over what it needs before I write anything up.

How we handle commercial insulation

We start by looking at what's in the roof and walls now, because old fiberglass that's wet, torn or full of droppings has to come out before anything new goes in. Then we do the air sealing, closing the gaps around pipes, vents and roof openings so the new insulation isn't fighting a draft. On a metal building, how the insulation goes in matters as much as what it is, so we settle the method with you, and the building's maker if needed, before we start. The crew puts it in with the vapor retarder facing the right way and full coverage out to the edges, where thin spots usually show up, and we clean up before we leave.

Keeping moisture out is the other half of most commercial jobs. When a wall or roof needs a separate sheet to keep damp air off the insulation, that's vapor barrier installation, and we can price it with the rest of the work. Older offices and storefronts on raised floors sometimes need a crawl space vapor barrier as well, so damp from the dirt underneath stays out of the floor.

What commercial insulation in San Luis has to plan around

In San Luis, the city's Building Safety Division enforces the building code, and the city's own code changes require a dust control plan to go to the building official before construction starts. So before work starts, we check with the building office in the city where the job is and find out what it wants for your building. If a permit is needed, we pull it and set up the inspections, and if you have questions about the city's rules, I'll point you to the right office.

Summer here is long, and a metal roof in the afternoon sun turns a shop into an oven, so most commercial calls are about heat. Dust gets into everything out here too, so we cover equipment and stock before any tear-out. We're based in San Luis and see the same buildings on jobs in Somerton, Yuma and the cities around them.

Why call us for commercial insulation

  • I write every estimate myself

I come out, look at the building in person and write the estimate, then a crew lead runs the install and I check the work at the end. The person who priced your job is the one who signs off on it.

  • Running this business since 2021

I worked insulation crews young, spent years in other work, then came back and started this business in San Luis in 2021. I'll tell you straight when a building doesn't need something, because I'd rather talk you out of work than sell it.

  • A licensed and insured contractor

We're licensed and insured, so you aren't carrying the risk of our crew working in your building. The work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Is a cool roof enough for a metal building in San Luis without insulation?

No, a reflective cool roof cuts heat from the sun but doesn't replace enough insulation under it, because insulation slows heat moving in and out through the roof in ways a reflective surface can't. A cool roof usually saves more on an older building with little insulation than on a newer, well-insulated one, so if you're pricing one, plan for insulation too and I'll tell you where your building stands.

How do I choose the best way to insulate an existing metal building?

Pick a method made for retrofit work, because some ways of insulating metal walls and roofs work in both new and existing buildings and others only suit new construction. Metal roofs and walls perform according to how they're installed, not just the material, so ask any crew how they'll put it in. That's why we settle the method with you before we start, as above.

What causes water to drip from the inside of a metal building roof?

Usually it's condensation, when damp inside air reaches cold metal with nothing properly installed in between. Insulation put in right with a vapor retarder controls that, and it matters because wet insulation works worse, is hard to dry out completely, and the water can speed up rust or let mold grow. Metal buildings have traditionally used fiberglass rolls draped over the frame with the retarder facing in, and if what's up there is already soaked, we pull it rather than cover it.

How much does spray foam insulation cost in Yuma?

Spray foam in Yuma usually runs about $1 to $5 per square foot. That's the going rate for spray foam in the area, not our price and not a price for fiberglass or other methods. Your own number comes from the estimate, once I've seen the building.

When should spray foam go in during a commercial remodel?

After the surfaces are prepped and the other trades are done, because work that comes after the foam can mean cutting some out and spraying it again. On a building that's open for business, we plan the spraying around your hours so the re-entry time doesn't land on a workday.

Will insulating my metal shop cut down on noise?

Yes, insulation keeps outside sound from coming in and soaks up the echo inside the building. That's worth knowing in a shop full of loud equipment or an office next to a busy road.

  • Vapor barrier installation

If damp air keeps reaching cold walls or roof panels, a vapor barrier in the right spot keeps the insulation dry so it keeps doing its job.

  • Crawl space vapor barrier

For an office or storefront built on a raised floor, a sheet laid over the crawl space dirt keeps ground moisture away from the framing and insulation above it.
